Helpful Tips on creating effective signage:
Your sign will do many things for your business, from creating the initial impression to providing the message to new and potential customers about your products and services. A sign does this through a combination of light, size, text, construction, placement and more. Remember – quite often your custom sign or banner is the first thing people see that is associated with your business, so a professional-looking design is of the utmost importance. Keep these design tips in mind as you design an effective sign for your business. (or skip these steps and have Pinpoint design it!)
- First get the basics down. To do its job, your sign has to be highly visible and easy to read. Some of the questions that Pinpoint will ask are—where will your sign be displayed, and for how long? How far away will viewers be? Will they be walking or driving? How long will they have to read and react to your sign? If the sign is outdoors, does it need to be visible after dark?
- Adding a border to focus attention on your sign helps the viewer read it 26% faster. That's a big advantage in a fast-paced marketplace.
- By presenting special information in a second color, you increase the reader's retention by 78%. So whatever is most important on your sign, whether it's a phone number or a key word, try using an accent color to draw better response. Too many colors take away from the quick readability of the sign. Again, stay simple. Make sure colors are contrasting. Yellow on white is not readable, whereas black on white is very readable.
- Visibility: Viewing distance is a primary factor. Your sign's lettering must be distinguishable from its surroundings. Put the sign as close to the street as allowable, and away from any possible obstruction.
- Durability--Use Sign Materials that Last. A sign is an investment--an investment that will serve its purpose for years if it is constructed of high quality, durable materials. Pinpoint offers an array of durable materials depending if your sign is being used indoors or outdoors.
- Legibility: The characteristic of the letters which make them individually distinguishable from other letters - dependent upon choosing the right typestyles and spacing. Choose only one or two fonts for your custom banner or sign. Choosing 2 fonts that complement each other can make your message stand out. Use fonts that are clearly legible from further away.
- When designing any signage less can be more! Leaving space around the edges and not filling the space completely with your text will add impact. Leave “white space” for optimal readability. Put a minimum of information with some sort of contact information (like a phone number or web address) instead of everything about your event on your sign. Be concise but make sure needed information is included.
